ACI Shares Perspective on Updated Corporate Climate Framework

  • American Cleaning Institute offers insights on SBTi Corporate Net-Zero Standard

December 15, 2025 – The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) is helping to enable the cleaning product industry’s continued progress in sustainability by providing input on the latest draft of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Corporate Net-Zero Standard.

The SBTi is updating its Net-Zero Standard to reflect the latest climate science and respond to companies’ real-world implementation needs. After submitting feedback earlier this year, ACI was pleased that several of its suggestions were included in the latest draft.

“We value the SBTi’s continued engagement with stakeholders and its efforts to strengthen this globally important climate action standard,” said Emily Trentacope, ACI’s Vice President of Sustainability. “Our industry is committed to meaningful emissions reductions, and we need standards that are both ambitious and practical.”

ACI also offered additional recommendations Friday to further improve the framework, including:

  • Encouraging clearer guidance for companies on how to use the added flexibilities outlined in the draft, such as market-based mechanisms.
  • Promoting guardrails that encourage credible, transparent supply chain emission reductions to ensure companies are making real progress on decarbonization.
  • Aligning the standard more fully with widely used global greenhouse gas accounting methods to help companies measure and report emissions more consistently and reliably.

“Clear, actionable guidance is essential for ACI’s member companies that are working to reduce emissions across complex supply chains,” Trentacope added. “We look forward to continued collaboration as the SBTi finalizes the updated Standard.”
