- Redesigned packaging, concentrated formulas reduced CO2 emissions
- Innovations conserve approximately 9 million gallons of water a year
The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) announced Henkel, a leading manufacturer of brands like Persil and Snuggle, has been selected as this year’s Sustainability Spotlight Award recipient.
ACI noted how Henkel comprehensively reimagined select liquid laundry product lines for all® free clear, Persil and Snuggle brands, concentrating formulas to provide more cleaning power per drop and innovating packaging to maximize efficiency. The innovation showcases Henkel’s commitment to sustainability and pioneering change, said Emily Trentacope, Ph.D., ACI’s Vice President of Sustainability.
“Henkel’s holistic integration of sustainability, from product formulation to packaging design and logistics, demonstrates transformative industry leadership and empowers consumers to have a positive impact,” said Trentacope, who announced the award winner at ACI’s Annual Convention in Orlando, FL.
In addition to concentrating formulas, the company reduced bottle complexity and size, simplifying the structure to smaller bottles made of more recycled plastic. This compaction increases shipping efficiency, resulting in less trucks on the road and saving a projected 4,000+ metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. All bottles are 100% designed for recycling, supporting a circular economy, and the concentrated formula results in an estimated water conservation in Henkel manufacturing facilities equivalent to 450,000 standard loads of laundry*, or 9 million gallons of water annually.
“At Henkel, we believe meaningful sustainability progress happens when innovation and responsibility work together,” said Martina Spinatsch, Senior Vice President of R&D, Henkel Consumer Brands North America. “Introducing these concentrated formulas has allowed us to continue delivering great performance for consumers while reducing our environmental footprint. We’re honored to be recognized by ACI, and we remain committed to driving positive impact across the entire value chain.”
